Whale: Return to Nature

This work explores the theme of “return to nature,” shaping the form of the whale — a presence that stands for the great natural world — into sculptural vessels.

Whales are symbols of wisdom, strength and protection, living with a deep sense of community and caring for companions in difficulty. The work reflects on the fading sense of community and mutual respect in modern society, and imagines a life in harmony with nature, where people look after and respect one another.

It is made with onggi clay, a traditional, earth-friendly Korean clay. As functional vessels, the pieces are meant to hold warm, nourishing food — and to become a medium through which people gather, connect and share warmth.
